Passive voice, active purchase
It has happened.
A purchase has been made.
I like the passive voice. It passes the blame of an action from first-person guilt to objective observation. I did not personally just buy an airline ticket to Japan. No. An airline ticket to Japan was purchased.
Moments ago.
For only $600, round trip, from Portland, Ore. to Tokyo, Japan. The return flight is from Nagoya, where I'll arrive by bullet train after a few days of exploring Tokyo.
I leave on Dec. 12, the Monday following my friends' wedding. I don't yet know how I will get to the airport, but it will be done.
I don't yet know how I will get from Narita, the airport in Tokyo, to my former coversant's apartment, where I will sleep while there. I don't yet know when I'll buy a ticket or rail pass for the bullet train, which will take me to my second major destination. I don't yet know if I'll make it to Kyoto, where I could visit my very close and very good friend Yukiko.
It's about 3 a.m., and I have class (happens to be a Japanese language lecture) at 9 a.m. All I know is that I'm going to Japan ... or rather, Japan will be visited ... by me.
